Having grown up in the small settlement of Waiuku – south of Auckland. Carl is a well grounded, hard working kiwi. He grew up playing the sports most young kids enjoy, and continued into his teen years playing rugby and cricket.
SIGNS OF PROMISE…
In 2007 Carl took up triathlon as a sport. This was no mean feat, having grown
to 95kgs he was far from sporty or healthy. He worked hard and
within a few years he had become a top age group triathlete, finishing 9th in the world in the ITU World Championships in Budapest in 2011.
After spending a year as a semi-professional racing in Europe Carl made the change to longer distance races and Ironman events.
Carl Read is an accomplished performer on the Ironman and Challenge circuit, having finished amongst legends in the sport and carving out a reputation as a hot prospect for the future.
